CHICAGO, IL (June 2, 2016) – Civitas Learning® announced a new engagement with DePaul University, the largest Catholic university in the U.S., to leverage data science and predictive analytics to support data-informed decision-making by university leaders and faculty.

“Through its comprehensive approach, DePaul serves an incredibly diverse population from traditional undergraduates to adult learners and first-generation college-goers. As one of the most innovative schools in the country, they have championed the application of technology to increase access and help all students achieve college success,” said David Kil, Chief Data Scientist at Civitas Learning. “They understand the transformative potential of data to improve decision-making, and are committed to translating complex patterns into insights that can shape behavior across the entire institution.”

Civitas Learning’s unique approach integrates complex data sources from across the campus to help institutions understand often-hidden factors that make a difference for students. Working with data science experts at Civitas Learning, DePaul University leaders will develop predictive models that enable faculty to anticipate student demand for courses and understand the unique challenges that students face in completing degree requirements.

“By unifying siloed data from across disparate systems on our campus, this work will generate new insights into student course-taking patterns to ensure that we have critical courses and faculty available when students need them most,” said Dr. Julie Artis, an associate professor of sociology and director of the university’s course scheduling analytics project. “This approach will empower us to be more proactive and focused in providing advising and planning support necessary for students to graduate on time.”
