AUSTIN, TEX. (June 26, 2014) – Civitas Learning® today announced the addition of Niranjan Nagar to the team in the role of chief technology officer. He will focus on a wide range of activities for the company, from building and designing Civitas’ overall mobile and app strategy to refining the company’s core technology infrastructure.

“Niranjan brings world-class experience to our organization around mobile and app development from the likes of Facebook and Electronic Arts,” said Civitas Learning Founder and CEO, Charles Thornburgh. “Even better, he will be a great addition to the mission-driven leadership of our company and will be key in unifying the work we’re doing in data science, engineering, and app design.”

Most recently, Nagar was the head of apps and games, and served as the global vertical marketing lead at Facebook. Prior to Facebook, he was the vice president for digital games at Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, where he explored several strategic investment and acquisition opportunities to build a social and mobile game team. Before Warner Bros, he worked as a vice president at Electronic Arts where he and his team built a new online service that launched in conjunction with The Sims 3 to help boost the social aspects of the game.

“Over the past 15 years, I drove technology solutions in online music and games that scaled distribution and introduced new business models like subscription music and free to play. The cost and quality of education is one of the most critical issues facing our nation today, and working with the existing public and private institutions is the only way to deliver the most impact in improving it,” said Nagar.

“As a parent and an entrepreneur, I was exploring ways to leverage these tools and techniques to improve the quality of education. When I met Charles and learned that he and Mark started Civitas Learning with the same vision, I became very interested in working with them to drive the adoption of their platform and their apps. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to now be part of their team.”

Nagar joins Civitas Learning June 23 beginning work to develop technology, product strategy and architecture. Dr. Mark Milliron, Chief Learning Officer and Co-Founder of Civitas Learning noted that “what’s especially exciting about this hire is that Niranjan’s experience, insight, and leadership will push us to build a more elegant technology architecture and even more exciting apps to help our member colleges and universities make the most of their data to engage, inform, and support those on the front lines of learning-students, faculty, and advisors.”
