AUSTIN, TX (Feb 21, 2017) — Civitas Learning today announced a new partnership with ClearScholar, a fast-growing developer of mobile app technology, to expand channels through which institutions can guide students along their journey and help remove simple barriers that can knock students off-course.
“When it comes to accessing critical information and campus resources, the student experience is too often fragmented and confusing to navigate. Students often have to rely on a handful of impersonal, disconnected apps and a barrage of information and resources,” said Dr. Mark D. Milliron, Co-Founder and Chief Learning Officer of Civitas Learning. “Through our partnership with ClearScholar and work to streamline the student experience, we are supporting students as they start at the institution and get on their path to success.”
According to one study by research firm Ruffalo Noel Levitz, half of students enrolled reported that they struggle to find the information they need on their campus. A study conducted by researchers affiliated with the Community College Research Center found that, over a five year period, almost 40 percent of students enrolled for one term or two consecutive terms and never returned to a two-year or four-year institution. Students frequently cite struggling to get on the right path and build a sense of belonging at the institution as major influences on their decision to leave.
Civitas Learning, the student success company that has partnered with more than 325 colleges and universities, will work with student engagement app, ClearScholar, to close the information gap that often exists between institutions and the students they serve. Civitas Learning’s platform currently delivers best-in-class analytics, academic planning tools, including class scheduling, degree planning, and career exploration, to more than 200 institutions. As ClearScholar is integrated into the Civitas Learning platform, the solution is expected to deliver the market’s most unified and personalized student experience, from new student onboarding to career exploration.
ClearScholar was selected because of their product’s superior student experience and the ease with which students can access needed supports and personalize their plans. The app has achieved daily and monthly usage metrics that are almost quadruple the industry average for student mobile apps, as seen by institutions like Butler University. This parallels performance by Civitas Learning’s integrated academic planning tools, which have driven nearly two million unique student schedule submissions in just one term, 90 percent adoption rates, and on average, 3-12 percentage point improvements in persistence.
“In order to serve our students, we had to give them a mobile solution that they actually want to use. Simply put — our students love their Butler app, and in fact, the student adoption rate is above 90 percent,” said Pete Williams, CIO, Butler University. “We now have the means to turn our student data into actions that help us better engage and more precisely communicate with our entire student body.”
