Civitas Summit I’m on the road visiting five cities in five days this week and enjoying the presentations and conversations with educational leaders coast to coast. The conversations have all been around student success strategies, challenging students to step up, and innovation in education – all the stuff I love. But what I’m really looking forward to is being home in Austin next week as we bring together our advisory boards and our community of partners for our Civitas Learning Summit at SXSWedu. Here’s our agenda in the Civitas Learning Space. I’ll be leading a number of conversations that include champion change agents such as Angela Baldasare (University of Arizona), Joe Schaefer (Strayer University) and Gerald Napoles (Lone Star College). I’m looking forward to them sharing the work they’re doing in retention, engagement, and next-generation leadership academies as part of our Partner Talk Show. We’ll also bring together some of my colleagues from the Foundation world and dive deep into the role analytics are playing in student-success-centered grant initiatives. We’ll welcome Scott Jenkins (Lumina Foundation), William “Bill” Moses (Kresge Foundation) and Wynn Rosser (Greater Texas Foundation.) The information they will share in our Foundation of Change session can help us all be better prepared to help our students. You’re also going to hear me and a number of our partners—especially our feature Analytics Catalytics TED-style talks—talking a lot about our community’s shared work turning the DIAL on student success. This framework is where we are seeing measurable improvements in student outcomes by Optimizing Data, Maximizing Insights, Informing Action based on those insights—including apps for advisors, faculty, and students—and then Continuing the Learning from what the data and our actions tell us. If you want to go deeper on the DIAL, here’s a related read for you. Having all of this in the middle of SXSWedu is going to make this our most exciting Summit yet. If you’re there, whether a partner or not, stop by our reception Wednesday night and take a look at our work. See you there!
